Financing Startups – A New Workshop for Entrepreneurs

April 22 2011 one Commented

For the past few months, Liz Marchi and I have been developing a new ½-day workshop for entrepreneurs:  Financing a High-Impact Venture (in Montana).  This new seminar was beta tested in Kalispell at Flathead Valley Community College yesterday morning for 22 enthusiastic participants.  Topics covered included capital sources for entrepreneurs, debt versus equity, exits, business plans, fundable companies, advisors, term sheets and valuation.  Content was punctuated with two lively exercises, the first on capital sources followed later with a case study on fundable companies.  I served as the faculty for this workshop.

The workshop was accompanied by a complete workbook with all slides plus resources providing more depth on most of the subjects covered during the day.  The workshop provided links to business plan templates, copies of Dan Rosen’s Preferred Light Term Sheet and an extensive description of the Scorecard Valuation Methodology.

In addition to the workbook the registration fee included copies of two books for each participant:

  • The Entrepreneurs’  Path:  A Handbook for High-Growth Companies, Tom Walker, i2E (2010)
  • Startup: The Complete Handbook for Launching a Company for Less,  Elizabeth Edwards (2010)

This workshop, sponsored by the Montana State Workforce Investment Board and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and presented by Innovate Montana, will be delivered in several additional locations within Montana later in 2010.  Contact Liz Marchi at liz@innovatemontana.com or (406) 883-4044 for more information.
